Working with the unique split layout, we renovated the loft into a living and workspace divided by the hall shared with the entire building. The historic schoolhouse, built in 1876, had high ceilings allowing for a sleeping loft. Utilitarian spaces such as the kitchen and bathroom are built into the space under the loft, allowing for a double-height space for the living area. Across the hall, the space was converted into an artist's studio. The original ceiling, window jambs, and radiators are preserved. Cabinetry is used to divide the sleeping space from the living space while maintaining the openness and light.
